day 1
The journey begins with an easy overnight in Johannesburg, providing a comfortable pause between international flights and the remote safari airstrips of Botswana. Located directly at O.R. Tambo International Airport, the InterContinental offers a quiet retreat where travelers can rest, enjoy the spa or settle in for dinner before the journey continues north the following morning.
day 1 | accommodation
Located directly at O.R. Tambo International Airport, the InterContinental Johannesburg O.R. Tambo Airport combines exceptional convenience with understated luxury.
Soundproofed rooms provide a peaceful retreat between flights, while the hotel offers a full-service spa, heated indoor pool and Quills Restaurant. It is a seamless overnight base before heading into the Botswana wilderness.
day 2-3
Fly into the heart of the Okavango Delta, a vast inland wetland where seasonal floodwaters spread across the Kalahari sands, creating a constantly shifting network of channels, lagoons and islands. Over three days, experience the Delta from different perspectives. Drift quietly through narrow waterways by mokoro, explore the islands on guided walks and venture out by open safari vehicle where conditions allow. Elephant, hippo, antelope and an extraordinary variety of birdlife thrive among the waterways, while predators move between the permanent water and surrounding floodplains.
day 2-4 | accommodation
Xigera Safari Lodge is as much a celebration of African art and design as it is a safari lodge. The property was conceived as an immersive expression of its natural surroundings, with striking architecture, locally inspired craftsmanship and an extensive collection of contemporary African art.
Spacious suites open onto private decks overlooking the Delta, while the main lodge, spa, pool and dining spaces are connected by raised walkways above the floodplain. The result is an extraordinary base from which to experience the wilderness - both inside and beyond the lodge.
day 5-6
Take to the skies once again, flying deeper into the northern Okavango Delta where permanent waterways meet open grasslands and wooded islands.
With two unhurried days in this remote corner of the Delta, the focus shifts towards immersion. Explore by mokoro and boat, head out on foot with experienced guides and follow wildlife across the islands and floodplains. Away from the busier routes, there is time to appreciate the stillness of the landscape - the calls of birds across the water, elephants moving through the reeds and the changing colours of the Delta from dawn to dusk.
day 5-6 | accommodation
Set on a private island in the northern Okavango Delta, North Island Okavango offers an intimate safari experience surrounded by permanent waterways and wilderness.
The camp's tented suites are positioned beneath mature trees and feature private decks and plunge pools overlooking the surrounding landscape. Days can be spent exploring by water, on foot or by safari vehicle, with private dining and personalized experiences adding to the sense of seclusion.
day 6-8
Fly south towards the Gomoti River and the wildlife-rich landscapes of Moremi Game Reserve. Here, permanent waterways, seasonal floodplains and woodland create a remarkably diverse habitat for wildlife. Three full days allow time to explore beyond a single game-drive route. Search for lion, leopard, African wild dog, elephant and buffalo across the floodplains and riverine forests, while expert guides reveal the smaller stories of the ecosystem along the way. Between game drives, slow down at camp, watching the river and surrounding wilderness change with the light.
day 7-9 | accommodation
Set along the Gomoti River, Tawana takes its inspiration from the land, wildlife and heritage of the Batawana people.
The camp combines contemporary African design with natural materials and a strong connection to its surroundings. Spacious tented suites feature private decks and plunge pools, while open communal spaces look towards the river and surrounding wilderness. It is an intimate setting from which to experience Moremi, where thoughtful design, wildlife and a strong sense of place come together naturally.
day 9
Wake to the sounds of the wilderness for a final morning beside the Gomoti River. After breakfast, board a scheduled light-aircraft transfer to Maun for your onward connection.
