day 1
The journey begins with an easy overnight in Johannesburg, providing a comfortable pause between international flights and the remote safari airstrips of Botswana. Located directly at O.R. Tambo International Airport, the InterContinental offers a quiet retreat where travelers can rest, enjoy the spa or settle in for dinner before the journey continues north the following morning.
day 1 | accommodation
Located directly at O.R. Tambo International Airport, the InterContinental Johannesburg O.R. Tambo Airport combines exceptional convenience with understated luxury.
Soundproofed rooms provide a peaceful retreat between flights, while the hotel offers a full-service spa, heated indoor pool and Quills Restaurant. It is a seamless overnight base before heading into the Botswana wilderness.
day 2-3
Fly into Kasane and continue into Chobe National Park, home to one of Africa's largest concentrations of elephants. Along the Chobe River wildlife gathers, creating exceptional opportunities for both land and water-based game viewing. Morning game drives follow the river's edge and surrounding woodland in search of elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard and abundant plains game. Later, take to the river by boat, where elephants come to drink and swim, hippos surface in the shallows and hundreds of birds gather along the banks. As the sun sinks over the floodplains, the river becomes a stage for one of Botswana's most spectacular daily rituals: wildlife coming to water.
day 2-3 | accommodation
Set on the banks of the Chobe River within Chobe National Park, Chobe Game Lodge is a long-established safari lodge overlooking one of northern Botswana's most wildlife-rich waterways.
The lodge combines contemporary comfort with distinctive Moorish-inspired architecture, with spacious rooms, shaded terraces, a swimming pool, spa and riverside dining areas. Days can be spent exploring the park by open safari vehicle or experiencing the Chobe River from the water.
day 4-5
Board a light aircraft and fly deep into the Okavango Delta, where a maze of channels, lagoons and palm-fringed islands creates one of Africa's most remarkable wilderness landscapes. Glide through narrow channels by mokoro, explore by motorboat where conditions allow, and venture onto the islands on guided walks to discover the smaller details of the ecosystem. Birdlife is exceptional, while elephant, hippo and other wildlife can often be encountered around the waterways. Here, the experience is less about ticking off sightings and more about slowing down and becoming immersed in the rhythm of the Delta.
day 4-5 | accommodation
Set on Nxaragha Island in the heart of the Okavango Delta, Camp Okavango offers an intimate base from which to experience Botswana's remarkable waterways.
Raised above the island on wooden decks, the camp's spacious safari tents feature private verandas overlooking the surrounding wilderness. Communal spaces open towards the water, with a swimming pool, viewing areas and relaxed dining creating an atmosphere designed for enjoying the landscape between excursions.
day 6-8
Take to the skies once again, flying to the Xakanaxa region of Moremi Game Reserve, where permanent water meets woodland, open floodplains and dense riverine vegetation. Three full days allow time to explore this diverse habitat by open safari vehicle. Search for lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, elephant and buffalo with each game drive revealing a different side of the reserve. Between excursions, return to camp for a slower rhythm - a long lunch, time beside the pool or an afternoon spent watching wildlife from camp. As evening falls, gather around the fire and listen to the sounds of the wilderness beyond the lantern light.
day 6-8 | accommodation
Set beneath towering ebony trees overlooking Xakanaxa Lagoon, Camp Moremi offers a classic safari experience in one of Moremi's most wildlife-rich areas.
Raised safari tents feature private viewing decks, while the main lodge provides a welcoming space for dining, relaxing and watching the surrounding wilderness. A swimming pool and outdoor boma offer places to unwind between game drives, with the lagoon and surrounding woodland providing a constant backdrop.
day 9
Wake to a final morning in the wilderness, with time for breakfast and one last look across the Xakanaxa landscape before boarding a scheduled light aircraft flight towards Maun for your onward connection.
